Lets talk about how much of a struggle money is in college. It’s pretty bad. Then on top of that I am personally a very conscious person when it comes to health, and the types of foods I am putting into my body. We all know that campus doesn’t make it easier to save money and eat healthy at the same time. On top of that we are making new friends, with more birthdays to account for, christmas is coming up, and more parties to go to. Lets take a second to reflect on all the money in general spent on going out for the night. Say you go get food with your group, then head to hookah or a bar, then on top of that any other clubs you go to have a cover charge. Its not cheap having a social life in college. Lets not even mention the student loans, car loans, or any other payments that dangle over our heads. Money is scarce and its not becoming any easier to find. So what do we do? We need to save each and every penny that we come across and stop taking finances lightly. My first tip is to invest in your own refillable water bottle. This way you don’t always need to buy more disposable water bottles.. plus when you’re out you will be much less tempted to buy that sugary rot-your-teeth out pop. Another idea is to not carry a credit card with you. Only carry your money..this way you can digest how much those boots and see if you really need them. Need something to do? Go to the rec, have a video game night, play cards with your friends..you might want to revaluate spending all your money on going out to a club. A trick that I do is I keep different labeled envelopes in my room with events or objects on them.. one might read as “Christmas spending. Goal: $300. Current Balance: $50” then under the current balance have a running total.. This makes you think twice about spending that money.
Money is a bit of a sore spot for most college students.. but once you come across some.. learn to not squander it and use it wisely. 🙂
